In this movie I find the jazz element being more harmonic than rhythmic. One of Bernstein’s proteges, the American conductor Michael Tilson Thomas, says many of his “perfect and iconic” songs “stake out a territory that we recognize as important to our inner lives.” Speaking to the Washington Post he described Bernstein’s as “music that haunts all of us. Baloo the Bear in Jungle Book...song, "The Bear Necessities"... Perhaps you might ask them if fifty years from now if the music that is popular today be considered old people’s music.
